Peru’s agricultural sector is modernizing quickly, and more and more companies and independent farmers want to import agricultural machinery from China to cut costs without sacrificing quality. The process has several technical and legal steps that, if not handled well, can cause delays, extra costs and customs problems.
Step 1: Correct tariff classification
Before shipping, you need to determine the correct tariff subheading for the machinery. A wrong classification can mean paying unnecessary duties or, worse, having your cargo held at customs. Validate this classification with a certified customs agent in Peru before closing the purchase with the Chinese supplier.
Step 2: Supplier verification and certifications
China has thousands of agricultural machinery makers, but not all of them meet safety and emissions standards. Before closing any deal:
- Ask for CE or ISO certificates.
- Request photos and videos of the manufacturing process.
- If possible, hire a pre-shipment inspection by an independent third party.
- Avoid paying 100% upfront to a supplier you do not know.
Step 3: Purchase and payment terms
Define in writing the price, production time, warranty and who pays for each leg of transport (delivery terms such as FOB or CIF). This avoids misunderstandings when the final invoice arrives.
Step 4: Door-to-door transport and logistics
Agricultural machinery is usually bulky and heavy, so sea freight in a container (FCL) is the most common option. At Import Export Hybrid we coordinate freight from the factory in China to the port of El Callao, handle customs clearance and deliver the equipment to your farm or warehouse, with tracking at every stage.
Step 5: Spare parts and technical service
Before buying, confirm that you will have access to spare parts and someone who can maintain the equipment in your area. A cheap machine without spare parts can cost more in the long run.
