One of the questions our clients ask most is: should I ship my cargo by air or by sea? The answer depends on three things: how much time you have, the size and weight of your shipment, and your budget.
Air freight: the fastest option
Our air shipping leaves from the United States to Latin America, and the time depends on the service you choose: to Peru there are shipments of 1, 2, 5, 7 or up to 10 days. It is ideal for high-value goods, urgent products, commercial samples, or small orders where speed matters more than cost per kilo.
- It arrives in a few days and is easier to track.
- It works best for light or small loads.
- The cost is based on the greater of actual weight and volumetric weight, so a large, light box can be expensive.
Sea freight: the most economical for large volumes
The time depends on the route: from China to Peru, 30 to 45 days; from China to the United States, about 30 days; and from the United States to Peru, 25 to 30 days. We work with consolidated cargo (LCL), where you share a container with other clients, and with full containers (FCL).
- It is the best option for machinery, goods for resale, cars and heavy cargo.
- The cost per kilo drops a lot when the volume is large.
- It needs advance planning, because transit is longer.

What else affects the cost
Besides freight, you should count insurance, customs duties at destination and local delivery to your door. That is why it is best to compare the total landed cost, not just the freight price.
